Biosis Research began in 1984 in Melbourne, when Charles Meredith, Ron Waters and Brian Malone set up a business (then called ABRG – Australian Biological Research Group).

Initially, we expected to work mainly on government contracts for conservation and wildlife management studies, and we rapidly obtained several such studies. After being in existence a few weeks, we successfully tendered to prepare a major review of the ecological impacts of timber harvesting for the Victorian Government’s Inquiry into the Timber Industry. The resulting report remained the benchmark in that area for over a decade.

Ron and Brian left the company in 1986. Charles Meredith changed the name to Biosis Research and began to actively pursue more private sector work. This strategy was successful, and the company began putting on staff. Since that time, private sector work has been our mainstay, although government work has continued to be a valuable component.

We opened our Sydney office in 1995. The ecological consulting work in Melbourne and Sydney grew steadily and, in 1998, Biosis Research added cultural heritage consulting to its portfolio through the purchase of du Cros & Associates. That synergy has been very successful, and has provided added value for our clients, as shown in the growth we have achieved in the Cultural Heritage group.

Biosis Research has had a strong focus on growth, and we have grown from a company of one in 1986 to a team of more than 70 consultants and support staff, and offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Queanbeyan, Ballarat, Wollongong, and Wangaratta.
